Over a decade ago I wrote/directed/edited a documentary called Shooting Star about a senior citizens basketball league in San Diego. This short film premiered at Sundance, and then went on a “world tour” to a variety of different festivals and screenings (mostly without me!). Some of the special screenings included MoMa Mass, Celebrate Brooklyn, and even a screening in Central Park. Shooting Star in many ways launched my directing career, opening a lot of interesting doors, and most importantly boosted my confidence during the difficult transition from editor to director.
A few weeks ago Rachel Chanoff, from the Performing Arts & Film office in NY, remembered my little film, hunted me down, and wanted to include it as part of a special screening on the newly installed media wall at the World Financial Center in NY. It’s playing on a loop with a number of other sports inspired shorts during the month of March.
I’m so pleased that this film still has a life, and because of it’s subject matter seems to have a “timeless” element to it. Like many of the screenings/festivals in the past I probably won’t get to see it... but hopefully a couple of my NY friends will catch it and send me a picture! If you want to check it out click here.
