Working with agency SMZ (via production company 1080inc), I just directed a commercial campaign for the Michigan Lottery. It’s for a Monopoly inspired scratch ticket, has some CGI elements, and we shot on a stage (in Michigan). That’s about all I can say right now. Although I often cut the projects I direct, this was left in the good hands of editor Terry King and a team of CGI artists at Grace & Wild. I hope to be posting something very soon.
The schedule being what it was, I had to fly into Detroit on Easter Sunday night directly from Arizona where I had been visiting my family. Before leaving for the airport, my mother casually said “You know, you were conceived in Birmingham”. This detail of my life (or pre-life) was completely unknown to me. Both of my parents then elaborated on what their world was like back then. Michigan was their first home out of college, and where they first worked professionally as teachers. My Dad would later become a sales exec for Energizer Batteries, and my mother a Real Estate agent... although they are now happily retired in one of those “Build a golf course in the desert and they will come” retirement communities just outside of Phoenix.
So at about 2am (or 11pm in my LA head) with Radiohead blaring on my ipod... a “Welcome to Birmingham” sign flew by my taxi window. and I had to smile.
